Home > How to adopt a rescue cat

Thank you for considering adopting a rescue cat. Here are the steps you will need to follow in order to adopt from us:

1 – Check that you meet all our adoption criteria.

In order to adopt from The Moggery you must:

  • You must be a HOMEOWNER
  • Have access to a garden with grass and borders.
  • Live away from a main road or bus route.
  • Have a cat flap installed which goes into the house before the cat goes out.
  • Be prepared to pay vet bills for a possible 18-20 years.
  • Live in the wider Bristol area.
  • Please make sure you meet ALL the criteria before ringing The Moggery on 0117 9243128. If you leave a message please add your full address and phone number.
  • Before you contact us please remember a cat is a joy but also a major financial commitment.

If you do not meet these requirements right now you could always consider becoming a foster home or volunteer until your circumstances change!

2 – Browse our cats online

To make an appointment to view please call 0117 924 3128. Please be aware not all cats are featured on line so call Christine on 0117 9243128.

3 – Adopt a cat.

We do not charge fees for our cats, but we do ask that you make a generous donation towards the vet bills of the cat you have chosen. When you come to view a cat/kittens you will be able to take them home the same day as we will have already done all the checks. We have wire carry baskets and litter available to purchase and can lend litter trays etc.

All cats more than 20 weeks old have been:

  • Spayed or neutered.
  • Treated for worms and fleas.
  • Microchipped.

4 – Follow post-adoption instructions

For kittens:

  • Arrange to have your kitten neutered / spayed and micro-chipped.
  • Keep your kitten indoors until they have been neutered and are at least 5 1/2 months old.
  • If you don’t already have one installed, install a cat flap that goes into the house before the kitten goes out.
  • Receive your 3-month progress check.
  • Arrange to have your cat vaccinated every year, and give them all necessary veterinary care throughout their lifetime.

For adult cats:

  • If you don’t already have one installed, install a cat flap before the cat goes out.
  • Arrange to have your cat vaccinated every year, and give them all necessary veterinary care throughout their lifetime.
  • Receive your 3-month progress check.
